Kálmán Gasztonyi
Kálmán Gasztonyi was born in 1964 in Budapest. His first mentor was his high school teacher, the painter János Nagy. Although he does not have a formal degree in the field, he does not consider himself a self-taught artist. His second mentor, Tibor Wessely, taught him the professional and technical aspects of oil painting in his free school, while his education in civil engineering also contributed to his knowledge.
He has been painting professionally since 1992. Since then, he has had many group and solo exhibitions both in Hungary and abroad. He has completed hundreds of individual and corporate commissions, creating not only panel paintings but also murals.
He primarily works on wall paintings using the al secco technique but has also created mosaics. He continuously participates in international, prestigious competitions, where he usually earns awards. According to him, the most important factor is his respect for oil painting and his professional knowledge.
He formulates his artistic philosophy as follows: "The value of a work of art is determined by its uniqueness and technically perfect execution." For him, one of the strongest sources of freedom is the ability to create with various painting techniques. His artistic periods are just beginning, but they never truly end.
Since 2009, he has been continuously sharing his professional experience in the arts with those who seek his guidance. It is a great source of pride for him when his students become successful, sovereign, and technically skilled creators.
