Andrea Gulyás

Born in Várpalota in 1982, where he completed his studies at an art high school. From 2003, he pursued private studies under the guidance of painter Győző Bihon. In the first years, his focus was on theoretical, art-historical, and visual studies. During this time, he became acquainted with the works of Hungarian constructive geometric artists from Szentendre, as well as the artists themselves. From 2010, he also began to practice object representation. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Hungarian Association of Fine and Applied Arts (MAOE). Since 2012, he has been creating cityscapes of Szentendre, initially using watercolor and later acrylic techniques. In his paintings, he deconstructs and then reconfigures the motifs of the Baroque main square, the church towers, narrow alleys, and rooftops. The self-taught artist is inspired by the constructive approaches of János Aknay, Pál Deim, and László Balogh, but his paintings create a soft, lyrical effect with intersecting planes, multiple layers of color applied in layers, and color fields that shine through one another. On his box-like "painting-objects," the subtle movement of the planes makes the layers of space almost tangible.
