András Gécseg
I was born in Keszthely in 1971, and I have lived here ever since, although three years ago I moved to the neighboring Gyenesdiás, both of which are my home. My interest in drawing and painting is thanks to my grandfather. I completed my high school studies in Zalaegerszeg as an architectural technician, but I soon realized that I might want to apply my drawing skills in another field. At the age of twenty, I began working in advertising painting, creating signs, billboards, and facade decorations, and a few years later, I painted my first oil paintings.
I have been strongly influenced by László Paál and Mihály Munkácsy, who continue to inspire me and accompany my work.
Alongside my job, I could only dedicate a relatively small amount of time to painting, but life gradually brought me closer to creation. In recent years, my focus has increasingly been on drawing and painting. Alongside oil paintings, pastel crayons have played a significant role as an expressive tool; they have come close to me and have become an important part of my painting. I am also interested in the watercolor technique, which is a fascinating story for me—the power of the moment.
I believe the important role of my painting lies in continuous learning, realizing new ideas, and using new materials and techniques as further possibilities to express my beliefs and feelings. I cannot limit myself to a specific artistic style; while I am drawn to both impressionism and realism, other movements also touch me. Many topics interest me, and I am constantly working on new pieces. In my opinion, knowledge can only be acquired through experience. Between energy and patience, we first need to feel the balance.
I believe in simplicity, which requires a long journey, but only then can we understand that sometimes less is more. An artist can never feel that they are finished; every creation is a birth, an attempt to understand myself and then show it to others. The work is finished when the creator’s thought makes it so.
