Antal Neógrády
He was born in Budapest in 1944. He is a descendant of a true artistic dynasty; his mother, Margit Beleznay, was an actress, and his father, Miklós Neogrády, was a ceramicist, set designer, and interior designer. His great-grandfather, Károly Telepy, a painter, is still regarded as one of the most prominent figures of realist landscape painting. His paternal grandfather, Antal Neogrády, was also devoted to painting.
For the young Neogrády, commitment to painting came naturally. A love for art was deeply embedded in their everyday life. He started drawing and painting as a child, and his talent quickly became apparent. In 1973, he graduated from the School of Applied Arts with a degree in interior architecture. He worked as a set designer at the film studio, creating sets for several Hungarian films. He is also credited with designing the interiors of numerous shops, auditoriums, and theater halls. Between 1977 and 1983, he worked at the Petőfi Theater in Veszprém. At the same time, he regularly painted and held numerous solo exhibitions both in Hungary and abroad.
His art is highly versatile, and he handles the brush with great skill, making him a true virtuoso. With the soul of an architect, buildings are primarily featured in his paintings. Continuing the family tradition, his work has firmly established him among Hungary’s leading contemporary painters.
